Dwight D. Eisenhower

World War II hero Dwight D. Eisenhower had never voted in his life before he decided to run for the office of president. From the humblest of beginnings as the third of seven sons born to a struggling Kansas couple, he emerged as a military leader whose administrative acumen brought clashing personalities together. During his time in office, he was frequently dismissed as a man who would rather play golf than govern, but history has treated the thirty-fourth president with a respect that recognizes the strength of his leadership and the breadth of his accomplishments.

Inside you will read about...

✓ Eisenhower, West Point Graduate ✓ Eisenhower Advances ✓ Eisenhower in Charge ✓ The Post-War Eisenhower ✓ From Commander to Candidate ✓ President Eisenhower And much more! The Eisenhower years are regarded as one of the most tranquil periods in American history, and yet he presided over a nation which saw the growth of the civil rights movement, the creation of a national system of highways, the end of the McCarthy anti-communist witch hunts, the advent of the Cold War and the quest for space. From the roads across the country to the terrain above the skies, Dwight Eisenhower, the last American president born in the nineteenth century, laid the groundwork for modern America.

Dwight Eisenhower A Life From Beginning to End Hourly History Books

Since I grew up on military bases, I was used to the custom of stopping whatever you were doing at the end of the day, when the flag was lowered, and then going back to doing whatever you were doing, or going wherever you were going, after the music stopped. The other time that everything stopped was when Ike came on TV (for those 56% of homes who owned a TV back then), for his thirty second campaign commercial that he would be a good President. I have to quote from this little book, 'Americans were ready for a change, and were eager to respond to Eisenhower's charm.' The last time that happened was in November 2016. Nobody on base would talk about Eisenhower in those days because it was against the law for government employees to talk about politics at work. But when we were off-base, that was the discussion. All night long.
I think I've read every other book on the Amazon page about Eisenhower, or Curtis LeMay, or Bay of Pigs, or the Inglorious Basterds, or the Interstate Highway System (weel, maybe not every book about bridges and concrete, but a majority of them). It's nice to encounter an hour-long history book that is also so complete.

Dwight Eisenhower A Life From Beginning to End Hourly History Books Reviews

AS ALWAYS, A VERY INTERESTING GOOD, SHORT READ. EVERY STUDENT SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO READ THIS BOOK ON "IKE" IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND HIS IMPORTANCE AND WHAT OUR PARENTS WERE ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT. GOOD BASIC INFORMATION.
It was a very informative and enjoyable read. I am going to have to do a bit of research now. I was curious about a couple of specifics that were mentioned. of course it is an "hourly history" which makes this series so enjoyable.
Ike was one of my heroes growing up and since he grew up in Kansas, I thought it was neat. When I lived in Texas, I wasn't too far from his birthplace, which tied things together as well. To me, Ike was a true American hero.
I love reading these histories, particularly on folks who haven't grabbed my attention to date. They are wonderfully easy read, and a great way of finding out if you want to invest more time on a particular figure. And this one on Ike doesn't disappoint. Thank you Thank you Thank you!
Very detailed and accurate account President Eisenhower, for a short read. This president is not given enough credit for being one of the best presidents of the 20th century. Even though Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War was looming, he did kept us safe. One of his greatest achievements was the interstate highway system. It helped with unemployment and bolstered our economy. Ike was a great General and President. "I Like Ike"!
Like with all the Hourly History Books we get a well rounded understanding of the Man, his his early years through his seminal years in the World War 2 and on into his Presidency that helped shape the very path the US would take for decades to come.

They do so without dumbing down any of it. The material is presented in a clear and concise format that is the hallmark of the series. In reading this book, it is easy to understand why, "I like Ike".
Enjoyed this Hourly History summary of a full, talented leader. Though a Kansas by transplant, I enjoyed reading about the progression of Ok A's life from cadet to ex-President. The author factually states the good and bad decisions made, but I think we can respect a man who was willing to take the blame if it failed and make light of the great accomplishments his talents churned out.
